YAHYA IBN MULDROW: As Salaamu Alaikum, I asked this question once before but I never saw a response. Maybe I need to rephrase it in a different way. Imam W Deen Mohammed encouraged his community to get involved with politics and run for political office. Like when there was the first Muslim Mayor in Kountz, Texas; Mayor Charles Bilal. I remember you going there to represent the Imam. To what extent should Muslim politicians represent their constituents who are from the LGBT community without compromising their beliefs, values or integrity of their religion?
IMAM EARL ABDULMALIK MOHAMMED: Our best help, and our foundation of faith, is regardfulness of Allah in its highest expression, or what is referred to as 'taqwa'. This applies equally to the notable members of the Islamic community and the most humble in the Islamic community. It is the chief characteristic of faith. It supports and leads to the good, and guards against bad decisions and bad actions. If they were to ask me this question I would advise the elected representatives who are Muslims, and I advise you also sir, to be regardful of Allah.
