We Muslim citizens of these United States of America offer our congratulations to President-elect Joseph Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. We are praying for their success as our national leaders in working to support and restore confidence in the American democratic idea for citizens of this country and all of those who cherish and uphold such values around the world.
The American idea of a participatory democracy in its highest form and purity is worthy of our trust. There is no conflict for us as a people of Islamic faith in this beloved country of ours. We believe G’d Favors this trust, and therefore we seek the public opportunities and national and local community partnerships with this leadership to promote the bonds inherent to this sacred trust.
We observe these two leaders to be persons of decency committed to the unity of American citizens and an improved international standing among the family of nations upon the principles of justice, fairness and the sacred liberty which characterizes the American ideal. These principles are well-known to Muslim-American citizens and Muslims everywhere as championed in our Holy Book and by our Prophet Muhammed, upon him be the prayers and the peace.
We would like also to especially acknowledge the achievement of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, being the first American woman to ascend to this high office. She stands for many peoples and the potential of all women in her person. May G’d Bless her, protect her for the purpose and the important role at hand.
G’d says in our Holy Book:
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ وَأُنْثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا
وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا ۚ إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ
“O humanity, certainly, We have created you all from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you will come to know one another. Certainly, the most honored of you are the most regardful of their duty to G’d. Certainly, G’d is All-Knowing, All-Informed.”
We commit ourselves to the promotion of the highest good for all people and all decent public service to the public trust in the manner that the religion of Islam places that good in focus and in the spirit of the purest democratic ideals. It is my belief that the American people are an innocent people, on the whole. We Muslims believe that G’d loved the first ancestor of all mankind -Adam and his natural Mate (in the way she is properly understood), and as such He loves innocence and the innocent. Therefore, it is my personal conviction that G’d has Favored and Saved this nation of ours, and this time in which we live, in order to witness and join in a new opportunity and with support to promote this good in America and the world, with the aid and recognition of these newly elected national leaders.
